A Study on Fatigue of Middle and High School Teachers

Abstract
Seventy two middle and high school teachers (Male: 63, Female: 9) were subjected to test for degree of fatigue by question to answer method and Flicker test during the period from Oct. 28, 1974 to Nov. 9, 1974 and following results were obtained.
1. Weekly average frequency of :.objective fatigue syndrome was higher in male than female, and the highest frequency in each physical(A), mental(B), and sensory neurotic(C) syndrome was observed on wednesday among female, but in male, the highest frequency of physical and sensory neurotic syndrome was observed on tuesday and mental syndrome was on wednesday. 1n both sexes, comparing the frequency of complaints in each group was found as group A>group C>group B.
2. In both sexes, the highest complaint was observed on the item of "feel tired on eye" in group A, and "feel thirst" in group C. And, in male, the highest frequency was observed on the item of "difficult to concentrate of thinking" in group B whereas "no willing even talk" in female.
3. The lower Flicker value (weekly average) was shown in female (40.7¡¾0.8 cycle/sec) than male(41.7¡¾1.9 cycle/sec), and the highest on tuesday in male, and on thursday in female, respectively. In both sexes, weekly average Flicker value was slightly increased in the afternoon. The greater range of Flicker variation within a day was observed on wednesday among males, but on monday among females.
4. The lowest Flicker value was observed in the group of 55-59 years of age in male, and 40-44 years in female. In both sexes, the highest frequency was observed in the group more than 35 years of age.
5. Of the length of service, the lowest Flicker value was in the 25-30 years group among males and the 15-20 years group among females. And in both sexes, Flicker value was lower in group who teaches more than 30 hours a week than normal value.
6. It was observed that the Flicker value was lower than normal in group who complain of illness and taking of medicine.
